15th April 2015

Staff: DWE, DHO

Weather: Cloudy morning, rain in the afternoon

Projects: Hooded Crow and Raven

A slow start to proceedings, but after finding 3 nests in quick succession spirits were up. We also got very good views of a 2cy male Merlin having breakfast on an unfortunate passerine and a White-tailed Eagle flew over on our wanderings. A male Wheatear and a flock of around 500 Redwings were also discovered around the Kvismaren area.

The first day of the 2015 season started on a nest finding mission to continue with the monitoring of Kvismarens corvid population which occurs every 5 years. A 6 hour trek produced many possible nesting sites and 1 confirmed nest with a lot more ground to cover in the following days.

Project: Ringing at Vallen. After 2 days no ringing, because of the bad weather (too windy), this morning we tried again..althougt it was another very windy morning, we decided to set on at least 12 nets. The students from Klarälvdalens folkhögskola i stöllet enjoyed with us the ringing session but few birds...

Weather: Cold and cloudy with some rain early in the morning.

Project: CES ringing at Ässon.

Staff: Bruno and Mike

Yesterday we went to Ässen but once there it started to rain. For the safety of the birds we decided not to ring and to go back to the birding station. So we had time to work on data, to do some house chores and bring in all of the canoes.

This morning we tried again in Ässon. There was some rain but this time we gave it a try. All by all a very slow day with low numbers.
