Weather: Warm day!
Projects: Marsh Harrier,
A much warmer day brought around a lot of Harrier activity, with 4 new nest building pairs discovered on Rysjön with 2 pairs active on Nyängen as well.
This afternoon we collected Stanley from the station, he will be part of the team til July and shall assist with all the projects.

Weather: Mild start, but warmer day with clear skies and nice weather.
Projects: Marsh Harrier, Great Reed Warbler, Starling nestboxes.
A much nicer day than yesterday and a new nest site for Marsh Harriers on Åslajön brings us to 9 nests so far this season. We think there are currently 2 more pairs that we have not found nests for so far in the Åslaholmen area, but anticipate more birds arriving soon.

This morning we censured Fräknabotten and looked out for Marsh harrier nest building from Lötenplatform.

Weather: Cold start, but actually a quite warm day with the odd shower

Today we censured all of Östra Kvismaren that was not completed yesterday, and to our horror the geese already have chicks, making the counting harder. We joke, we love it really.

Today was the beginning of Wetland Census part 2, with Åslajön and Fågeljön surveyed. Just for fun, all the geese feeding on Öbyåkern decided to visit Fågeljön whilst I was counting.

This morning was rather productive as far as nest finding goes, confirming one of the probable nests from yesterday on Åslajön and then finding 2 more in the same area. 7 nests located so far!

Weather: Warmer than yesterday (just!) but still a brief amount of snow in the afternoon.

This morning I took once more to Åslaholmen, as the centre point to the Marsh Harrier activity so far I felt it would be the best option for finding more examples of nest building.
I quickly confirmed a nest in Åslajön and unfortunately a second female was spotted as she ducked behind a tree meaning I do not have an exact location.

Weather: Subzero start, very cold with snow showers!

Today I was joined by the experienced eyes of Bo Nielsen as we spent the morning in the less than ideal weather searching for Harrier nests, we managed to locate 2 nests, 1 on Rysjön and another on Källviken.
More nests will be found regularly from now (hopefully!) though I do think there are more birds due to arrive in the area to breed.

I took the opportunity this afternoon to go and finish the Sörön nestbox checks before the breeding season gets into full swing.

An attempt to go to watch Marsh Harriers this morning was rather delayed by the electrics going off overnight and me trying to sort it out. Turned out to be simple had I understood electrics a bit better than I did! At least I have learnt something new today!
