Another slow and quiet morning in Ässön due to wind with a total of 39 new captures, until we trapped the first Black Woodpecker for the season!!!!! And the 7th record for the Kvismaren!!!!. What an amazing surprise!!! It was a life for all of us and totally unexpected for today as it was quite windy. Now, we are looking forward to trapping the Lesser Woodpecker as it is the common one and the only one missing by now ;)

A brilliant day at Asson this morning! Looked like it would be fairly slow, as no sun meant very few birds were moving around but after the rays broke through it became very busy. Without doubt the highlights were 2 Green Woodpeckers, an adult and a juvenile. Also in the mix were a Common Sandpiper, Wood Warbler and Hooded Crow, so plenty of variety in the mix of 126 new birds!

The third Water Rail of the year was caught, another juvenile, as well as the first Goldcrest of the season, a possible sign that migration is slowly beginning…?
