3rd June 2016
Staff: DWE, MLA, LST, LAR, MBR, MTA
Weather: Sunny and very hot, with a one-hour thunderstorm
Projects: Great Reed Warbler, Skylark, Söron nestboxes, Marsh Harriers, Ortolan Bunting
As usual GRW team left early in the morning to check the lakes. MTA and LAR went to check Segersjön and managed to catch a male with a logger! So they took the opportunity to retrieve that logger and put a new one so we can have long term data on the same individuals, hopefully. MBR surveyed Sörbysjön as well, where he found 2 new nests. He also checked Nyängen where all the males are still singing Long Song, and also Löten where one nest was predated.
The rest of the team focused on some other projects and had the thunderstorm interrupting for about one hour. It is always nice to feel we are in a tropical zone… aren’t we?
Anyway, both LST and DWE checked for Söron nest boxes where they were able to ring some Blue Tit and Great Tit chicks.
LST and MLA did some observations of Skylarks at Mörby still trying to look for nests and feeding individuals and locate them all in a map. Meanwhile DWE did as well some behaviour observations in Åslaholmen of Marsh Harrier nests.
At the end of the day DWE and MLA went to do some observation of Ortolan Buntings, but no feeding was observed as it was getting to dark already. The two males in Sörosletten are still singing Long Song, and a River Warbler was heard in Åsen.
