Staff: DWE, MLA, LST, LAR, MBR, JRD

Weather: Quite warm day and not so windy

Projects: Great Reed Warbler, Night Singing Bird Census, Savi’s Warbler, Geese Counting.

Last night, night singing bird census part II, was carried by DWE, MLA and LST. The team had a quite pleasant walk around Västra Kvismaren as it was not so cold last night. It is always amazing what you can find walking in the fields, and last night was interesting that we were able to spot 2 nests of yellow wagtails, both with eggs, in the dark and quite well hidden in the tall grass!

Sedge Warbler: 42
Thrush Nightingale: 13
Lapwing: 6
Grasshopper Warbler: 5
Snipe: 4
Spotted Crake: 1
Bittern: 1
Tawny Owl: 1

After the night census it was time for the GRW team to explore the lakes, and today was a successful day! LAR caught the only stable singing male in Fågelsjön, and it ended up to be a logger male! Well done Laila :)
The rest of the team surveyed the other lakes to check the singing males and possible females, so for today we had 5 singing males in Åslasjön, 1 in Nyängen, and 5 other in Sörbysjön. MBR also spotted a male singing short song in Löten, which means we have a female around and possibly a nest coming soon as well. We will keep an eye on that!

Later in the afternoon LAR and JRD went back to Sörbysjön to record some GRW songs.
DWE and LST went as well to Sörbysjön to catch the two Savi’s Warblers that were heard in the night census. Successfully, two Savi’s warblers were captured and colour ringed! Well done team as well! :)
Meanwhile MLA kept an eye on Marsh Harrier activity around Sörbysjön, and proceeded with Geese counting around the canal.
