14th May 2016
Staff: DWE, MLA, LST, LAR, TMJ, MBR
Weather: Cold, rainy and quite windy day
Projects: Great Reed Warbler
The day started early, as the Wetland Census was planned to start at 5.00 in the morning for everyone at Ängfallet. However, the quite heavy rain put everyone back to bed for a couple more hours.
The GRW team, LAR, MBR and TMJ got up a few hours later to make the routine check of the lakes. Two ringed males were seen in Sörbysjön singing intensive songs as they were ‘fighting’ for a territory. In Rysjön the first nest of the season is almost complete, and so far, the 4 males in Åslasjön still don’t have any females around.
The rain motivated the rest of the team to do some office work and cleaning and to relax a little bit.
The afternoon was booked for a car trip until Skattkärr so the GRW could finally have a new canoe without holes on it! Everyone joined the trip to help out with the canoe and for some bird watching on the way.
Later in the afternoon Jacob (JRD) joined us in Ängfallet and he will be helping the GRW team for the next week.
The evening was a rather pleasant one, as everyone was invited to see the grand finale of the Eurovision Song Contest and eat home made rhubarb pie at Maja’s house! Exciting moments right in the end before the announcement of Ukraine to be the winner of this year’s competition.
It is a late ending of a more relaxed day, but starting tomorrow, Ängfallet’s team will have a more intense work on several projects that will be running at the same time. Let’s hope for the best now that the sunny days are over and this cold weather is coming to stay for a couple of days.
