Staff: DWE, MLA, LST, LAR, TMJ
Weather: warm, mild wind, clear sky
Projects: Marsh Harriers, Great Reed Warbler, Ortolan Bunting
GRW team went out today to explore Rysjön, Nyängen, Fågelsjön and Åslasjön early in the morning. Despite the calm weather and sightings of 10+ little gulls and 4 black terns, LST and MLA did not hear or see any GRW. However, LAR and TMJ successfully located at least two males, one of which was seen with rings.
It was also a quiet morning for both marsh harriers and Ortolan buntings. DWE did not find any potential new nesting locations for the harriers nor heard any Ortolan buntings around Sörosletten.
Later in the morning, we all decided to visit Anita and Maja at their café near Öby Kulle. It is the last weekend that the café opens for the spring season this year. So, we took the opportunity to enjoy a nice cup of coffee, a few home-made cakes and some great laughter.
In the afternoon, LST set up two mist nets around the house while all other staff members were taking a rest. We caught 2 great tits, 1 blue tit, 1 chaffinch and 1 blackcap. Both the blue tit and chaffinch were retraps from 2015 and 2014 respectively.
DWE and MLA will be heading out to catch some waders throughout the night. Best of luck to them and happy trapping!
