Projects: Marsh Harriers.
The 2016 season has begun, and I am back again to run the earlier spring projects before the arrival of other staff members in a couple of weeks. Alongside setting up paperwork for the season, and with the warm pleasant weather prevailing, I rode to Rysjön this morning to gauge how many Marsh Harriers were currently hunting here and after dinner I went to Åslaholmen to do the same.
Only 1 female was present in Rysjön this morning, however on Åslajön 3 females and 2 males, including a calling male, were present.
Of other note, Kvismaren’s first Ring-necked Duck (Aythya collaris) has been present for a few weeks, so I spent some time in the afternoon looking out for him. He was feeding with Tufted Duck’s at the back of Rysjön, a life tick for me, comparing to the Red-breasted Goose on my first day last season.
