Weather: sunny and calm, but extremely cold in the morning.

Projects: Ringing

Standardised ringing

Good weather day today. 18 nets were set up at 5:58 in Banvallen. Lower temperatures of the season were waiting for us in the ringing place. Numbers of dunnocks have increased recently, presumably in migration through Kvismaren, together with the wrens. A bluethroat was also present in our captures.

Siskin (Spinus spinus) 7
Reed bunting (Emberiza schoeniclus) 1
Blue tit (Cyanistes caruleus) 1(1)
Wren (Troglodytes troglodytes) 4(1)
Bluethroat ( Luscinia svecica) 1
Robin (Erithaculos rubecula) 2(2)
Reed warbler (Acrocephalus scirpaceus) 5(2)
Dunnock (Prunela modularis) 7
Sedge warbler (Acrocephalus schoenobaenus) 3(1)
Blackcap (Sylvia atricapilla) 1
Great tit (Parus major) 0(2)
Yellowhammer (Emberiza citronella) 1

TOTAL: 42 birds: 33 new ringed and 9 recaptures

Numbers of birds drops down around 9:30. After the 5 hours, we decided to go to ässön to try a bit more there in the afternoon (from 16-17:30 with 19 nets). It was a happy decision: We got a new species for the season! A juvenile male of Penduline tit was ringed among more siskins. Tape of siskin, Black woodpecker and marsh tit were played. Detailed list of the captures provided here:

Blue tit (Cyanistes caruleus) 2(2)
Siskin (Spinus spinus) 20
Reed warbler (Acrocephalus scirpaceus) 1
Penduline tit (Remiz pendulinus) 1
Chiffchaff (Phylloscopus collybita) 2

TOTAL: 28 birds; 26 new ones and 2 recaptures.
