25th July 2015
Staff: APN, MMJ, CBS, LDC, HAN
Weather: Calm and sunny during morning. Overcast at noon. Unyielding rain throughout the rest of the day.
Projects: Ringing.
Standardised ringing
Ringing took place at Vallen. Weather conditions were for once good and so was also the catch, somewhat reminiscent of last year’s high standard. In particular, the Marsh Warblers were a welcome component – the best day for that species so far this season. In total, 70 birds of 14 species were caught, 59 of them new and 11 recaptures. Birds caught listed in detail below:
White Wagtail 2
Yellow Wagtail 1
Thrush Nightingale 1 rec
Whitethroat 5 + 4 rec
Sedge Warbler 15
Reed Warbler 10 + 5 rec
Marsh Warbler 6
Willow Warbler 7 + 1 rec
Great Tit 1
Blue Tit 1
Bearded Reedling 4
Goldfinch 1
Greenfinch 1
Reed Bunting 5
Observations
On a trip to Fiskingemaden a Little Stint and a Red Knot were seen among the other waders, both in beautiful summer plumage, although distant.
