19th July 2015
Staff: APN, MMJ, CBS, PBN, TMJ, LDZ, JRD, Hannes
Weather: Very windy and rainy in the early morning, with wind persisting all day.
Projects: Great reed warblers, Ringing.
Great reed warblers
JRD and TMJ went to Aslasjön and ringed 2 nests of Great Reed Warblers there – one of 3 chicks and one of 4. They then went to Sörbyjön to check 2 nests, one containing 5 chicks and one with 4. In the process of searching for a third nest they discovered a brood of 3 Marsh Harrier chicks which they caught and ringed. These were only a couple of days away from fledging so a lucky find.
Standardised ringing
Rain and strong winds early morning made the standardised ringing unsafe for the birds at Banvallen and so was abandoned. Office work was conducted in the afternoon.
MMJ and LDZ went to pick up a new Assistant, Hannes, in the afternoon. Welcome back to Kvismaren Hannes!
Observations
There was a report of a Barred Warbler at Husön.
