Great Reed Warbler
MBR and MLA find one GRW nest at Fågelsjön. The other male at the lake, whose nest got predated, is singing long song, and then he’s looking for another female.
TMJ found a predated nest and a very enthusiastic male singing short song. However, the female was not spotted in the area. She checked a nest that had with 5 chicks instead of one (the one not there had a malformation in the legs).
Standardised Ringing
24 nets were totally set today at 4:45 in Vallen. 46 new birds were ringed and 19 birds were recaptured. Despite the low captures, today was an interesting day with a great variety of species- including a GRW, an Icterine warbler, a Pied Flycatcher, 4 Greenfinches and 5 new Bearded tits- and the mysterious disappearance of one of the ringers while putting down the nets. CBS happen to have an urgent call related to Marsh Harrier chicks from GRW team. The captures were as follows:
• Reed Warbler (A.scirpaceus): 9(5 rec)
• Sedge Warbler (A.schoenobaenus): 10 (5 rec)
• Pied Flycatcher (F. hypoleuca): 1
• Willow Warbler (Ph.trochillus): 3
• Icterine Warbler (H.icterina): 1
• Garden Warbler (S.borin): 4
• Reed Bunting (E. schoeniclus): 6 (2 rec)
• Bearded tit (P. biarmicus): 5
• Blackap (S.atricapilla): 1
• Blue tit (C.caeruleus): 8 (1rec)
• Whitethroat (S. communis): 6(3rec)
• Yellowhammer (E.citrinella): 1
• Thrush Nightingale: 3 (2rec)
• Great tit (P.major): 1
• Greenfinch (C. chloris): 4
• Great Reed Warbler (A. arundinaceus): 1 rec
Skylarks
skylark plots have been surveying at Bärsta by JMY, counting number of individuals in the non-organic farmland. No much feeding activity was detected.
Ortolan Buntings
The presence of Ortolan bunting was checked in Lindasabacken and Söröslätten by JMY. Nothing was found maybe because of the heat decreased the activity of the birds.
Marsh Harrier
MBR and MLA have some time so they went to search for one known Marsh Harrier nest. They did not find the nest, but they found two fully grown and fledge chicks of Marsh Harrier and had to call CBS urgently. CBS appears as quickly as he could with the rings and helped ringing the two Marsh Harrier chicks.
