Staff: JMY, MBR, APN, MMJ, TMJ, CBS, MLA
Weather:Another scorching day, hitting 30°C. Nice cooling westerly breeze
Projects: Great Reed Warbler, Standardised Ringing, Skylarks
Great Reed Warbler
MBR & TMJ ringed the chicks found in a single nest at Sörbysjön, and they also caught three adults, one of which had a light logger attached. A new logger was fitted to this, plus two further adult birds also had loggers attached.
Standardised Ringing
Another quiet day, possibly due to the hot weather, this time at Vallen. MLA joined the ringing team for the morning, along side APN & CBS. 35 new birds were caught, including two bearded tits.
- Blackcap (S. atricapilla): 1
- Sedge warbler (Acrocephalus schoenobaenus): 8
- Blue tit (C. caeruleus): 9
- Reed bunting (E.schoeniclus): 4
- Great tit (P.major): 1
- Thrush nightingale (L.luscinia): 3
- Blackbird (Turdus merula): 1
- Reed wabler (Acrocephalus scirpaceus) : 13
- Willow warbler (Phylloscopus trochilus) : 1
- Whitethroat (Sylvia communis) :6
- Bearded reedling (Panurus biarmicus) :3
- Yellowhammer (Emberiza citrinella) : 1
Skylarks
The Skylark luck did not continue today, although JMY & MMJ initially located and marked out an area where skylarks were flying in with food for chicks at Sörby. Returning later with CBS and the ringing/ blood sampling kit, the birds were much less active, probably due to the mid-day heat, and were also landing in several different locations, suggesting that the chicks may have left the nest. Another check early tomorrow will hopefully confirm what is going on.
Ad-Hoc/sightings
A peregrine falcon was seen by Marcello over Sörbysjön
