Weather:Misty start, sunshine and showers throughout day
Projects: Great Reed Warbler, Skylark, Ringing, Ortolan buntings.
Great Reed Warbler
MBR and MLA tried to locate and catch a male Great Reed Warbler that wore a logger however upon reaching the site at Rysjön, discovered that the bird was nowhere to be found - very disappointing.
Ringing
CBS, MMJ and APN went to Banvallen to ring from 3:45am to 9:15am. Over 50 birds were caught, a decent number for the time of year. Good numbers of Whitethroat, Reed Bunting and Thrush Nightingale were caught, with the star bird being the first Marsh Warbler trapped of the year. Later in the afternoon more work was carried out at Fågelsjön, finishing strimming the net rides and making good progress with repairing a boardwalk there.
Ortolan buntings
JMY and MPS surveyed Sylark plots on the autumn crop in the morning, and then searched for an Ortolan heard calling near Ängfallet, but the bird stopped calling and couldn’t be located. JMY went to Torsholomen in the evening looking for the Ortolan known to be there, but also had no luck.
