30th April 2015
Staff: DWE, DHO, JMY
Weather: Cold day, starting and ending with wind. Rain from 5 onwards.
Projects: Marsh Harrier, Starling.
As usual I and DHO went out to check on the Marsh Harriers (this morning at Rysjön). We identified a new pair and are now getting to a point where all nests will be located as TMJ has completed her areas around Åslasjön and Fågelsjön.
During the afternoon we went shopping for some supplies via a detour to a Little Bustard that showed up yesterday outside the Kvismaren area. It was nice for me to get a look at some of the more traditional Swedish countryside, with summer plumage Black-throated Divers on a few lakes and some beautiful scenery.
On getting back to Ängfallet I began the checking of Starling Nest boxes. This is a long term study on the success of Starling’s in the Kvismaren area. This was unfortunately cut short by a rain shower as I did not want to put adult birds off eggs in the cooler weather, and will be further completed tomorrow. It is apparent from the ones I have checked however that the birds are very close to full clutch sizes and so much more Starling work to be done in the coming days.
