Good work. Good fun.
Personel; TMJ, TLR, LSS, MPN, MFG
Weather; Sun, and clouds, cold northerly wind during the whole day
Projects; Ortolan, Great Reed Warbler, Tawny Owl, Penduline Tit, Marsh Harrier
In the morning, we divided into our 2 working teams. Magnus Pearsson and Torben checked Ortolan territories, Yellowhammer and Skylarks at Ängfallet, Tursholmen and Husön. They found 2 singing males - one unringed and the other, color ringed. Actually, we can tell that this one was breeding here last year. Meanwhile, Lena and I took the canoe out in Rysjön looking for Great Reed Warbler. Result, none. We checked also Åslasjön and Fågelsjön, this time by walking around. None either. What can we do. They will come. Tomorrow we'll take the canoe there as well.
At noon, the four of us decided to met at Öby Kulle for a deserved coffee. Magnus Friberg came along and the five of us head home to have some lunch. Right after lunch, Lena and Torben fixed the toilet door while both Magnus and I managed to fix a 'special' net and prepared all the stuff to ring the Tawny Owl and its chicks nesting nearby. Do you remember the Tawny Owl nest that we found a week ago? Well, we are very glad to announce there were 4 nice little chicks in it.
But the day was not over yet. Next stop, Åslaholmen. Our goal, to catch a Penduline Tit. However, we were not so lucky here - it just appeared for a very little while and flew away to never be seen again - we did not want to go home so, we sit down and look at all the Marsh Harrier males flying around Åslasjön, taking photos of them and trying to identify them individually.
And what better way to end the day with a good meal and a good fire!
See you on the next post.
