Meadow Pipit was the first of the year, a species that is not caught every year at Kvismare. Another first for the year was Redpoll and as a bonus it was good to catch a range of varying plumages. Some individuals were quite easy to assign subspecies (species?) with others a little more intermediate in features and measurements. 72 Reed Bunting is easily our highest daily total and puts the annual total just over 600 – the highest since 2004.
We have now ringed about 5650 birds this year, I don’t think we will make it to 6000 but if we have a couple more days like this it will be easy!
Other; A Rustic Bunting was at Hammarmaden in the morning but became pretty elusive and wasn’t seen by many of the observers looking for it this afternoon.
Good to see Magnus the ‘Ortolan man’ back for a visit.
