The first Willow Tit of the season was nice. Warbler numbers are really starting to drop off now. Season totals have been quite impressive 1153 Reed Warblers and 804 Sedge Warblers are the highest annual totals for these species since 2006. Other species haven’t done so well – 531 Willow Warblers is the lowest for a while and Blackcap and Garden Warbler totals were both down on previous years. Today the 1000th bird of the month was ringed – hopefully there will be many more to come…

Other; In the evening there was quite a gathering of Swallows feeding around Fågelsjön so, we decided to have one last try at catching them. This year we have not had the best of luck when it comes to Swallow roosts with several broken speakers, uncooperative birds and generally no success despite many attempts. Today was no exception! A broken speaker, some battery problems with the spare and no birds … again. We did, however, see a Swift which seems a bit late but was not the same excitement as catching 200 Swallows.
