For the last week the weather forecast has showed rain on Monday morning – today. This would normally be a bad thing, however this has been a summer of unusually good weather and as a result we have completely forgotten what it is like to stay in bed past sunrise. We have only missed 3 days of ringing since the beginning of July! So, when checking the forecast before going to bed, we were a little disappointed to see that all had changed, the rain would pass overnight and the morning will be fine and dry, albeit a little windy. So once again, beep-beep-beep goes the alarm this morning!

We had limited time this morning so instead of visiting one of the standard sites we had a change of scenery - a change of site and a change of birds. Lots of finch passage overhead with a nice catch of Bramblings responding to playback. This was perhaps the first day of the season that we haven’t caught Reed Warblers!
Other; 6 Lesser White fronted Geese were on Hammarmaden in the morning. In the evening a little over 11,000 Cranes were counted coming into roost at Löten and Hammarmaden. There is no rain in the 10-day weather forecast!
