A much more productive morning – back up to our usual daily total!

Personnel; MKS, TMJ, MFG, 2x ’Crane Girls’

Weather; Clear early morning with the fog descending a little after dawn. It cleared again by mid-morning and was cloudy for most of the rest of the day. Light SE wind.

Projects; Standardised CES Ringing (Vallen, Fågelsjön)

Ringing totals; Nets 06:15 – 11:00

Robin 4
Dunnock 10
Reed Warbler 18
Sedge Warbler 5
Willow Warbler 3
Grasshopper Warbler 1
Reed Bunting
Blue Tit 6
Blackcap 6
Brambling 6
Chaffinch 1
Bearded Tit 3
Bluethroat 1
Great Tit 2

TOTAL = 73 (+ 11 Controls)

Only the 3rd Grasshopper Warbler of the season. Today’s 1cy male Bluethroat was the 14th so far, this is the highest total since 2007 when 20 were ringed.

Other; Some Swedish people may be surprised to hear that, despite being in Sweden for a long time, we have yet to see a Moose. In the evening we went for a short drive around the reserve, particularly focusing on the Restamossen area, to try and fix this. We saw Short-eared Owl, Roe Deer, Badger, a bat and several frogs but found a complete lack of Moose – maybe next time.
