We hope you enjoy reading about what is going on here at the observatory and check back regularly to see our daily updates. Now we are into September the primary focus of our work is the bird ringing. You can find out how we are gerring on as our daily totals will be posted here.

Personnel; Matt Slaymaker (MKS), Teresa Montras (TMJ), Jonas Classon (JCN), 2x ’Crane Girls’

The Barred Warbler was the clear highlight of the morning and represents the 17th to be ringed at the observatory, all but 3 of which have been caught at Vallen. This is the 3rd year in a row the species has been caught here.

Other; Jonas became the third person this season to sink in a deep muddy ditch by walking along the wrong side of the nets during a net round! Lesson learnt – he will stick to the boardwalks from now on. In the evening we picked up Ewa Karaszewska (from Poland) who will be joining the team as a working guest for the next 2 weeks.
