9th of June

Staff:Ana (AJA), Carles (CDF), Laila (LAR), Cristina (CSP), Gintaras (GMA), Dennis, Fran

Weather: LIttle wind, persistent rain for the late morning.

Projects: Wetland census, data entering, Ortolans, kestrel nestboxes, GRW

First thing in the morning the staff set off to carry out the wetland census each to their own site, some with more success than others. Carles was not one of the lucky ones and could not complete his as there was a bridge missing that he needed (despite watching E.T. many times he still has not mastered the art of flying off with his bike, scope and tripod). Full results tomorrow, hopefully by then Carles will have figured out how to get to the other side of the Kanal.

The GRW team fought the rain and misery to find two new nests and one new female.

A combined effort between both teams carried out a check of three kestrel boxes in the vicinity, with one box occupied and six chicks ringed, another box not used and the third one having been predated at the egg stage.

To celebrate (the six chicks ringed not the predated nest) cake and pitta bread were made from scratch, as well as grandmothers rice and garlic soup to alleviate natures visit to Mariana, Gintaras made the best couscous of his short cooking apprenticeship and least but not last the station welcomed back Fran (FGA) who will be staying for the weekend.

Good weekend and happy birding!
