Staff: DWE, MLA, LST, LAR, MBR, DHT, MPN
Weather: Sunny but windy morning and showers in the afternoon
Projects: Great Reed Warbler, Ortolan Bunting, Goose Counting, Savi’s Warbler
It was the usual morning routine for the GRW team early in the morning before the storm hit Kvismaren before noon. One new nest was found in Sörbysjön. Two new females were located in Rysjön along with two nests, one of which was occupied by two eggs. In Åslasjön, one male was seen guarding two nests and another male was seen with a female. A new nest was found completed and a new male was also sighted in Åslasjön.
After the afternoon showers faded away, the rest of the team went out to search for more Ortolan buntings in woods north of Fräknabottnen. It seemed that the habitat was particularly suitable for the bird and consequently, we did not hear any Ortolan buntings in the area. DWE, LST and MLA also counted geese at Hammarmaden, Löten and Ormkärret. Goslings of the Grey-legged Goose were in good numbers and they were growing fast!
In the evening after dinner, DWE, LST and MLA went out to Fågelsjön to search for Savi’s warblers, which were reportedly seen earlier in the morning at an area not far from a previously ringed male. They had a glimpse of two birds flying by, but could not confirm whether it was a new bird or the same male with a potential mate.
