Weather: cloudy morning and storm showers in the afternoon

Projects: Great Reed Warbler, Starling Nest Box, Ortolan Bunting and Skylarks

It was another busy morning for the GRW team with the arrival of Denis (DHT). The team checked all lakes in Kvismaren and found one new male each at Rysjön and Åslasjön. The male at Fågelsjön was finally accompanied by a female. In Sörbysjön, all five males are now properly identified and the presence of females was also observed. Hopefully, some nest building attempts will be carried out in the coming days. There has been any change in the rest of the lakes.

The rest of the team managed to check starling nest boxes in Ängfallet and most of the chicks are now ready to be ringed. Hopefully, this task will be completed over the coming weekend, weather permitting.

Storm hit Kvismaren soon after lunch, DWE, LST and MLA took the opportunity to do some office work around the station. DWE and MLA managed to sort out a few mist-nets, while LST moaned a large area of the lawn.

Later in the afternoon, DWE, LST, MLA and MPN had a productive meeting discussing the results of wetland census and planning for other upcoming projects. MPN cleared up a few procedural problems regard the wetland census, including ways to avoid double-counting, timing of the census and data recording. The Ortolan Bunting team also decided to survey a few more potential areas for the bird as well as making another attempt to ring the remaining unidentified males. The skylark team will be checking out two potential study areas during the week to monitor the behaviour of the bird.
