Staff: DWE, MLA, LST, LAR, MBR, JSL, MPN, JRD

Weather: Cold, windy with showers

Projects: Great Reed Warbler, Skylark, Ortolan Bunting, Geese Counting

The GRW team, LAR, MBR and JRD continued their routine checks of the lakes in Kvismaren. Two retraps were captured in Sörbysjön; no birds were seen in Västras; one possible new male singing in Östra and the nest building in Rysjön was completed.

The rest of the team, together with MPM had a meeting with Jan (JSL) for some updates on both the Skylark and Ortolan Bunting projects. For the Ortolan bunting project, the team will be conducting more observations on the breeding behaviour of the species, including territory claims, mating behaviour, nest preferences, and post-natal movements of juveniles. For the skylark project, JSL and MPN took the team out to the nearby fields to select potential study sites.

In the afternoon, our lovely Volvo car broke down. With the help of JRD’s car, we managed to toll it back to the station. DWE, MLA and LST also managed to count geese at Rysjön and Hammermarden.

In the evening, we went out to search for the flock of Eurasian Dotterels that were seen during the day, but unfortunately, by the time we got there, they have already moved on. On the positive side, we did manage to see a beautiful sunset after all the rainy and cloudy days.
