Staff: DWE, MLA, LST, LAR, MPN, TMJ
Weather: Warm spring day
Projects: Ortolan Bunting, Great Reed Warbler, Söron Next Boxes, Geese Counting, Lapwing Survey
Today was another exciting day for the GRW team as TMJ and LAR found the firs nest for season 2016 in Rysjön (just 5% was built!!!). It is close to the hide, where the female was found yesterday ;). In addition, we successfully ringed the second male heart in Rysjön. This one was singing short songs when we arrived, but after a while, he started to sing long songs; which made us to thick that there was a second female around and he didn’t manage to attract her by now!!!! . We also went to Nyangen and we saw the same male individual singing. As it’s happened before we haven’t managed to read all colour. There is still one colour ring that we aren’t sure about it. It’s so evasive!!!.
Ortolan team (LST, MPN AND DWE) had also an early morning and it was also very fruitful with a new male (non-ringed) trapped and ringed in Husön.
After lunch, DWE , MLA and LST carried out first the Geese Counting in Lötten platform and Hammarmader Shelter with a total of 286 adults and 376 chicks. After this, DWE also made the Lapwing Census in Västa Råcken with 23 females, 16 males and 8 nests; meanwhile, MLA and LST checked the tit nest box around Söron. They found 14 occupied (one of this with chicks), 13 empty and 5 abandoned on eggs. By now, these nest boxes are been using by Great Tits and Blue Tits.
