Staff: DWE, MLA, LST, LAR, MPN
Weather: warm, mild wind, clear sky
Projects: Starling, Great Reed Warbler, Ortolan Bunting
The last night, DWE and MLA have tried to ring some migratory waders at Källviken but unfortunately the weather conditions weren’t the right ones for it - no clouds on the sky and bit windy. So no waders were trapped.
This morning, Ortolan team (MPN, DWE and LST) had an early start from 04:30 to 07:00 for a netting trial. It seems that we’ve been lucky again as no bird was caught. A ringed male in 2015(V5-92) was observed with a second bird, possible a female, in Lindåsabacken. Others 2 birds were also seen around Sörösletten.
After Otorlan project, LST went around all the others lakes from outside to try to hear the GRW and unfortunately no birds were around singing. MLA and LAR canoed around Fågelsjön and Åslasjön in order to check and have a nice (close) look for the 3 birds heart in Åslasjön yesterday. 2 of them were singing and resighted in the same spots!! Therefore, tomorrow we will try to catch them and also to look for the third one if it is still being around Aslajön or just decided to move to another lake around Kvismare. Another bird in Åslasjon was watched flying quite close to the water, checking the males singing and not singing at all, which makes think that it can be a female (the first one observed!!!).
No GRW were spotted in Fågelsjön but two males of Bearded Reedling were observed really close to us (We had an amazing view!!!! It’s the first time I saw them!!!! so cute!!!! ). It’s quite likely they are breeding around this lake.
Later in the morning, MLA and LAR went to visit Anita and Maja at their café near Öby Kulle as it is the last day opened of the season. We enjoyed the sun, nice coffee and home-made cakes, and of course, Anita and Mala companies!!!! .
After lunch, LST has made some ringing around the house with three nests opened. He ringed a new Robin, Pied Flycatcher, Willow Warbler and Common Whitethroat.
