6th May 2016
Staff: DWE, MLA, LST, LAR, TMJ, MPN
Weather: Less windy and another pleasant warm sunny day.
Projects: Marsh Harriers, Great Reed Warbler, Ortolan Bunting
GRW team went out today to explore Sörbysjön early in the morning. As it is her favourite lake, TMJ was happy to take us there and tell us all about the tricks and fun parts of this relatively new area for GRW. Once again, all the TMJ’s positive energy made the morning a quite pleasant one.
While walking around Sörbysjön, the team had closer views of Marsh Harrier females carrying nest material. These observations, allowed us to turn two potential locations made by long-distance observations a little bit more accurate, for when we will be looking after the nests in the next weeks.
Later in the morning was time for office work, which is much needed indeed, as well as quite important. While DWE was entering data and updating all the information, so it can easily be shared with the Bird Observatory staff, TMJ was giving us all the details of both office and field work for the GRW and answering all our questions.
A little bit more of office work was carried during the afternoon, and it was also time to try some of the nets that were left here to be cleaned.
Brave LAR decided to practice the canoeing again this afternoon so she can be in shape when the busy times arrive! Again, two GRW were heard in Åslasjön.
In the evening MPN joined the team to check for the Ortolan Buntings we had seen in the previous day and put up some nets to try to catch the unringed bird around Sörösletten. A presence of an Ortolan ringed last year in the same area was confirmed, but in the net only one male Wheatear was ringed.
High hopes for tomorrow’s day as it looks it is going to be warm again!
