14th April 2016
Staff: DWE
Weather: Windier, though not too strong, overcast and cold yet dry.
Projects: Goose Census, Marsh Harrier
This morning was spent observing the Marsh Harrier behaviour on Åslajön and Fågelsjön. Over Åslajön, 3 males and 3 females were observed, with one dark male displaying flying for half an hour, unfortunately without finding a female, better luck next time buddy!
Another pair was seen interacting and briefly going down together in the reeds, we shall see if this is merely coincidence in the coming week I hope.
Another male and female were over Källviken, but mainly hunting without interaction.
I used the time on Åslaholmen to count the number of Greylag Geese on this part of Kvismaren and in the afternoon moved to cover the area beyond Rysjön.
Åslajön
107
Fågelsjön
262
Nyängen
38
Nynäsängen
29
Fräknabottnen
5
I also performed a secondary count on Rysjön to assure that the count from yesterday matched up and a count of 145 was made, and although down on yesterday many more geese were feeding in the fields, which were also counted in the Åslajön and Fågelsjön counts.
