9th July 2015
Staff: JMY, MBR, APN, MMJ, CBS, MLA, PBN, TMJ
Weather: Clear at first light turning to showers mid morning. Cloudy all day.
Projects:Standardised ringing, Great Reed Warblers and Skylarks
Skylarks
JMY and MPN surveyed an area in search of nests and marked some areas where there has been feeding activity.
Great reeds
MBR caught a female great reed in Sörbysjön. MLA found an abandoned nest in Fågelsjön. TMJ found a predated nest in Rysjön and a new male singing long song. It seems the weather of recent days has hampered growth of the reed and severely damaged nesting birds within it.
Standardised ringing
Ringing at Banvallen was cut short today by rain at around half past 8. The increasing water level also left a few nets un-useable. 27 new birds were ringed.
Blackcap 2
Blackbird 1
Robin 2
Sedge Warbler 6
Icterine Warbler 2
Whitethroat 1
Garden Warbler 5
Willow Warbler 3
Bearded Tit 2
Great Tit 1
Reed Bunting 1
Worryingly a lot of reed has been damaged and laid down by the recent weather, very few reed warblers have been caught so far this season, it will be interesting to see how they do throughout the ringing season
CBS, APN, PBN & MMJ.
Ringing waders at Fiskinge. 1 Knot, 1 Greenshank, 1 Common Tern, 1 Lapwing and 1 Little ringed plover were caught. Please note that the nets left out on Fiskingemaden have been carefully closed by observatory staff and are closely monitored throughout the day. Futher attempts will be made to catch waders in the coming days/weeks.
Observations – The little bustard remained on Hammermaden though was elusive for much of the day. Golden Oriole was heard singing at Fiskinge and a Myrsnäppa was also observed there. 2 Pochard in rysjön were autumnal.
