7th July 2015
Staff: JMY, MBR, APN, MMJ, CBS, MLA, PBN
Weather: Far too windy for action
Projects: Skylarks and strawberry picking.
Skylarks
JMY and MPN surveyed 3 skylark plots each, feeding behaviours were observed in the plots but numbers were well down, this is thought to be because of the near gale force winds. A team will go out this evening to try to catch fledgling skylarks and take blood samples.
Strawberry picking
All of the team in Ängfallet left the station today, joining Maja and Anita for an afternoon picking strawberries nearby. An absolute mountain of strawberries were obtained and now the main task is to eat them. The saab’s tyre was also fixed at Bobo’s däck whilst we were out.
The weather tomorrow looks iffy but projects will attempt to continue.
Observations – Bird watching was limited in Kvismaren today, Hobby, Osprey, Marsh Harriers and Buzzards were observed from Ängfallet in a short evening watch. Herring gull was seen passing through with Common gulls. Siskin are present all over the reserve and it seems it’s been a good season for this species. Spotted flyctachers continue to build a nest near the station, presumably after failing with their first nesting attempt.
