10th June 2015
Staff: JMY, MBR, EKP, APN, MMJ
Weather:Lovely warm and sunny day with a bit of increasing wind at the evening.
Projects: Great Reed Warbler, locating of Marsh Harrier Nest, Ortolan Bunting, Crows nest visits, finding out and ringing Lapwing chicks.
Great reed warbler
MBR found good and bad news in Sörbysjön. One new Great Reed Warbler nest was spotted, but other one was found predated. On the other hand, little Gull chicks were seen.
Ortolans
Our old Ortolan bunting friend in Ängfallet, who was disappeared for a while, was spotted by JMY and EKP. Confirmation of the same individual was possible thanks to colour rings. He has change territory from the first time. That might indicates he would have had the nest in a field that have been harvested. Thus, he changed after the harvesting.
Later, JMY and EKP went to Seyersjön and spotted a possible pair. Two calling were heard at the same time. Male was seen and did not carry rings. He was singing most of the time which might indicates the absence of feeding chicks behaviour (no chicks).
Locating of Marsh Harrier Nest
APN and MMJ went to Åslaholmen to check the location where the Marsh Harrier nest behaviour was seen before. Three possible nests were found and one new one spotted. Later, same procedure was used in Rysjötornet to locate nest. A pair at least was seen flying around and an impressive aggressive behaviour from a male towards a female was observed.
Crows nest
APN, MMJ, and EKP went to check the Crows nest located in june. Two of them were found with neither chicks nor indication of activity.
Lapwing chicks
APN, MMJ and EKP went to the meadow next to öbykulle, where more than 20 couples of Lapwings were spotted before. The aim was to try to find the chicks and ringing them. After a time of search APN found one Lapwing chick which was ringed, as you can see in the picture. During the deep search through the grass we found another surprise: a young hare.
