5th May 2015
Staff: DWE, JMY, TMJ, Marcello
Weather: Sun at first, then became cloudy & rained afternoon & evening
Projects: Skylark, Starling Nestboxes, Great Reed Warbler, Wetland Survey.
The day started with trial skylark plot surveys by DWE & JMY. 7 singing males were recorded over the two plots. Further discussion then took place with Jan Sondell to decide on the best methodology for the actual surveys beginning in Mid May. In the meantime we will be observing the skylarks to look for confirmation of nesting.
Whilst we did this, Marcello, who arrived yesterday from Spain, went with TMJ to work on great reed warblers.
DWE & JMY went on to do a wetland survey over Östra Kvismaren, with good numbers of wood sandpiper, though in general lower numbers of wildfowl than on previous counts. Then on to Öby Kulle to check starling nest boxes; 14 out of 24 for occupied by starlings, mostly up to full clutch size and incubating.
DWE and Marcello later went out to search for a marsh sandpiper which they hoped would show up at Kvismaren after it had been briefly seen about 20km south… No luck there though!
