Projects: Marsh Harrier and Hooded Crow and Raven

Today we spent the morning looking out over Fiskingemaden and from the platform the Harriers were much more active than on our last visit here. We managed to confirm one nest and have our suspicions about a second.

We tackled the Hidingsta åkrar and Ökna utmarker areas, ones which I suspected would be a little lacking in nests due to a slightly more wooded habitat. However we were pleased to discover 2 confirmed nest sites and another one we need to revisit with the pair not yet incubating eggs.

In regards to sightings, the migrants continue to arrive with 3/4 Willow Warblers joining the chorus in Fiskingeskogen as well as Tree Pipit. We also got our first Common Terns of the year (though I believe there is a couple of observations from earlier in the week that we missed?) foraging over the canal and one resting amongst the gulls on Fiskingemaden. I was also very pleased to slap eyes on a Wryneck whilst out searching for crows, a bird I was looking forwards to as I haven’t seen any in the UK and I was not disappointed with great close views.
