We've decided against using a picture of 9V-44 for the diary, as it was so terribly ugly. Instead we give you 9V-59, the wannabe Kingfisher! Photo: Carlos Mompó Zornoza

Staff: Carlos, Bruno, Antoine, Hannes, Helena, and the new arrival, Kieran

Weather: A lovely day with no wind (calm), sunny and cloudy, thick morning mist and a light rain shower in the early afternoon. Temperature 19 degrees Celsius once the morning cold had passed.

CES-ringing: A wonderful day with highlights such as 16 Bearded Tits and 9 Great Reed Warblers, of which one was the previously colour-ringed 9V-44, carrying a logger which we hopefully will be able to retrieve next year. It wasn’t the most beautiful bird we’ve ever seen (having dropped almost every feather on it's head and not yet had the time to regrow them, it was pretty much bald and the ears were far too visible to be aesthetically pleasing), but nonetheless a very nice surprise! Also the sunrise was something out of the ordinary today, even for Kvismaren, where pretty much every day begins with a breathtakingly red sun à la The Lion King.

The summary of today’s catch goes as follows:

In the afternoon, Carlos picked up our newcomer Kieran from England who will be here for six weeks. Antoine and Helena strimmed all the netrides at Vallen, repaired a netpole and gave the ringing table a not so extreme but very much needed makeover.

To top it all off, we’re now going to have our first barbecue of the season. Peace, over and out!
