5 Kestrel chicks ringed at a nestbox during the evening by Friberg's team at Söröslätten (photo by Magnus Friberg)

Hello diary!

Workers: Teresa, Lena, Marianne, Helena, Magnus and the working guests Dennis and Emilia.

Weather: Sunny and cloudy, a little shower. Aprox. 20 celsius.

Work of the day:

This morning, Marianne and Helena were keeping watching to the Ortolan nesting in Ängfallet. The pair whose chicks were ringed one week ago are still feeding and now the chicks seem to have fledged from the nest. A second Ortolan pair is now beginning to feed also, which is very good news!

Magnus, Marianne and Helena went to ring yellowhammer chicks in a nest on Söröslätten, BUT found them dead in nest (2 dead chicks in the nest). No signs of outer damage... We don't know the reason that caused it. Nest was placed in a ditch close to a conventional farmland. We also saw the second pair of ortolan feeding chicks and the nest are possible a few meters out in the field of spring crop.

The Great Reed Warbler Team was out in all the Kvismare-Lakes and in Egeby. After a long lasting search in Åslasjön we finally found a rebuilt nest plus accidently also the Marsh Harrier Nest we were searching for the whole yesterdays afternoon.

This night Friberg will try to catch some quails. Good luck for that!

House work: Magnus started to dig outside the veranda, because we have a leaking pipe.
