Thunderstorm

Personel; Teresa, Torben, Lena, Nico, Magnus, Marianne, Maja, Jacob, Bo

Weather; first rainy, then sun, later thunderstorm

Projects; Great Reed Warbler, Farmland Birds, Savi’s Warbler

This day started with a little rain. But since the people from the Great Reed Warbler team are quite used to get wet, they didn’t care too much about the weather.  Therefore they were able to find a new male in Nyängen which also seems to have a female. But later that day even the GRW team had to surrender to the weather, since a thunderstorm was approaching. This forced them out of the canoes, and to reach the shore in time, Lena even had to take a little extra swim in the muddy lakes.

Meanwhile at the farmland, no significant success can be mentioned. The morning was very quiet. But at this point nobody knew that surprisingly good news were still about to come. In the afternoon namely, the Ortolan pair close to our house was seen again and observed while it was feeding chicks. That is a big surprise because we thought the nest was predated. Unfortunately we didn’t find the nest this evening.

Bo went out to find the Savi’s Warbler that disappeared some time ago in Värstamaden but he also couldn’t find it. It seems to be a very secretive bird.

In the late evening Teresa, Maja and Magnus Friberg went out again to catch quails and spotted crakes but they also did not succeed, but it surely hasn’t been their last try.
