Weather: Finally warmer and much more springlike!
Projects: Marsh Harrier, Starling nestboxes.
Finally, spring seems to be here! Though it still froze overnight, there was significant signs that it might actually be warm enough to remove a layer of clothing soon!
This morning was spent on Åslaholmen when a new nest was located in both Källviken and Åslasjön, with another nest made more confident about in Åslasjön. This leaves us with 14 nests so far in Kvismaren, a very promising start to the season.
In the afternoon 50 more Starling boxes were checked in Öby kulle and Sörösletten. It looks like the Starlings are a little mixed on building stage with a current 0% occupancy in Sörösletten but in Öby kulle 11 of 25 had 1 or 2 eggs and 5 more had nesting activity. Starlings will lay 1 egg per day so we will do a full clutch assessment next week when they have had a chance to complete the clutches.
Swallows, Willow Warblers and Wheatears were all recorded today also. Spring migrants are returning in greater numbers daily now.
