Weather: Sunny and calm.

Staff: Geoff, Steve, Bill, Bruno, Carlos and Mike.

 

Project: CES Ringing Banvallen

We started off today at 5:30pm. Weatherwise it promised to be a sunny day. The sunrise was beautiful at the Banvallen ringing station. Lot´s of Sedge and Reed Warblers. Nice catches were a Greenfinch and a Siskin and two Nuthatches. Tomorrow night we will try again to catch more Waders.

Project: CES Ringing at Asson.

 

The marsh had a covering of early morning mist on this cool overcast start.With our nets set at right angles from the raised pathway into the edge of the marsh. Our catch soon reached eighty birds including three Bluethroats, passerines expected at this site.

I´m not surewhat was more enjoyable, the marshland habitat with its migrant species or Steve doing his Sundance Kid impression cycling up the long pathway humming “Raindrops Keep Falling on my Head”.

Weather: Cloudy and warm all the morning.

Project: CES ringing at Banvallen. We started our ringing sesion at 05:30 as usual but the morning was not very succesful. Just 44 birds of 13 species.

 Project: Ringing program CES.

 Weather: Sunny morning at Vallen with a little wind.

In the ringing session we caught 105 birds of 11 different species. The most special were 4 Blue Throat and 2 Great Reed Warblers.

The summary of today is:

Weather: Cloudy morning with around 16 degrees and a light breeze.  

Total catches (amount of individuals):

Carp – 104

Tench – 8

Pike – 1

Spined – 2

Bleak – 1

Roach - 2

According to our plans, we retrieved the fish nets which we set the night before at Rysjön and Fågelsjön. This year, the amount of fish caught was less compared to last year (2014: 6,9Kg; 2013: 25,8Kg). Mainly carp were caught and in total one pike.

Weather: Overcast sky in the morning with around 16 degrees. Later on, sunshine breaking through.

A calm morning in Ässon. Another bluethroat was captured, also three Goldcrests. In addition, we spotted a Black Woodpecker.

Weather: Clear skies and no wind. Temperature at midday maybe around 20 degrees Celsius.

A nice day at Banvallen with two more Bluethroats caught and a Black Woodpecker observed, the latter a species which seems to be something of a favourite with the non-Swedish staff.

Today's summary:

1 Wren = 1

3 Robins = 3

2 Bluethroats = 2

10 Sedge Warblers = 10

10 Reed Warblers + 3 recaptures = 13

1 Lesser Whitethroat = 1

Weather: Clear skies but windy. Cloudier later in the day.

Projects: CES-ringing

A nice day (recaptured first calendar year Barred Warbler and a new adult male Bluethroat) cut short by strong wind.
