Work at the bird observatory

Whether you’re new to birding or a seasoned ornithologist, there are opportunities to work at the bird observatory.

Before Midsummer, we are mainly looking for surveyors for the Marsh Harrier project and other projects. After Midsummer and through the end of September, we need bird ringers and assistants. No previous bird observatory experience is required to work as an assistant — an interest in birds and nature is all you need. The minimum age for assistants is 15.

While working at the observatory, you’ll stay for free in the station building, Ängfallet. Per diem allowances are paid to certain staff categories. The following rates apply for 2026:

• Surveyors: 1,400 SEK per week
• Ringers who have worked at Kvismaren Bird Observatory before, or who stay for one month or longer: 1,400 SEK per week
• Ringers staying less than one month: 1,200 SEK per week
• Assistants staying one month or longer: 700 SEK per week
