Staff: DWE, DHO, JMY

Weather: Cold day, with mid-strength winds and showers.

Projects: Marsh Harrier, Hooded Crow and Raven.

We selected an area along the canal to do the Marsh Harrier surveys and though there were birds feeding out over Sörbyjön we did not locate any going down with nest material. We did however see many migrants about with Great Reed, Eurasian Reed and Sedge Warblers singing in the reed beds and Blackcap’s joining the Willow Warblers in the forests. We also had our second Hobby of the year fly over Fågelsjön.

As we headed out to do some crow nest finding we went via the reported Ortolan Bunting and saw a nice male singing. This bird is a know bird (told from colour rings) and in previous years held a tracking device.

After our detour we succeeded in finding our 29th Crow nest in a copse of tree’s around the edge of Sörön.
