Weather: Sunny and warm day with slight on/off cloud cover.

Projects: Wetland Census and Hooded Crow and Raven

Wetland Census:
Census performed between 07:00 and 09:10 with it becoming quickly apparent that counting Greylag Goose goslings is not as straight forwards as it sounds.

Hammarboten:
Greylag Goose 20 pairs + 61 chicks and 2 individual adults.
Coot: 1 pair
Canada Goose: 1 pair
Redshank: 2 display flying
Teal: 415
Mute Swan: 4 pairs + 1 individual
Lapwing: 20
Gadwall: 4 pairs
Black-headed Gull: 3
Goldeneye: 3

Sörbyjön:
Greylag Goose: 1 pair + 5 chicks
Black-headed Gull: 22
Lapwing: 6
Teal: 12

Killingemaden:
Greylag Goose: 5 pairs
Snipe: 10
Mallard: 2 pairs
Wigeon: 10
Lapwing: 2 pairs

Hammarmaden:
Greylag Goose: 80 pairs + 151 chicks
Whooper Swan: 18
Mute Swan: 1
Teal: 74
Wigeon: 170
Mallard: 2
Common Sandpiper: 1

My counts were further hampered by a hunting White-tailed Eagle who predated a gosling; very much a kid in a candy store with easy pickings. A Peregrine also joined the hunt briefly though to less success than the competiton.

Crows:
It is getting to a closing phase in regards to nest finding for the Hooded Crows as much of the area is now accounted for, with site revisits where pairs have been seen in previous days being the main focus of our activities. Today we took on the Kvinnersta/Värsta area and as suspected we discovered our 28th nest, though not in the nest we had scoped at a distance. We also heavily suspect another nest but again could not prove it’s occupancy as it is located in someone’s garden. Next step is a stakeout!
